The Painted Bunny

Last week I said I would have some great news and today I am ready to share about a new workshop, and today I’ve got the details! I’ve been working on a new online painting workshop! I’m so very excited to share the details!

Starts March 1!

Early registration now thru Feb. 22 Early birds enjoy $7.00 off! Register today!

Bunny rabbits are my weakness. They are the ideal character for Spring of course, but they are my animal of choice for any season. I treat them like little dolls, giving them life like features and personalities…all with a couple dabs of paint and a brush. I embellish them with outfits, expressions that get them noticed, and eyes that look so…real. I’m proud to be able to show you how to paint them, too.

Here is a 2 minute video that gives a bit more insight to the workshop.

In this 4 week, 12 lessons workshop, you will create 3 bunnies, each one a little different.

Develop your own style and bring a bunny to life with a few strokes. Enjoy over 100 minutes of video instruction, photos of finished pieces, and lots of inspiration. Several templates and PDF’s will be provided to use as reference.

The Painted Bunny runs from March 1 – 27
Lessons are posted Monday, Wednesday and Friday!

We will paint our 2nd bunny. A great variation from what we have learned so far. I will also show how to finish your canvas.

Valentines and a Big Canvas

Last night I enjoyed a great evening with my Valentine. We went to Village Canvas and Cabernet for a date night. It was a Valentine’s Special Dealio where you got to paint 2 canvases (with your honey), and you also got a bottle of wine and several trips to the appetizers and cupcake bar. Those goodies were were provided by one of my fav places – Jones Bros. Simply divine!! Painting, wine, snacks, cupcakes and a seat next to my sweetie..can’t beat that.

The canvases we did were pretty out of our element and our comfort zone–landscapes. Whaaat? Yeah! Somehow we muddled through okay though.

We tried not to eavesdrop (well I didn’t try very hard) on the other couples in the room while they were painting together. The couple next to us…oh my…the mister was so demanding and demeaning to his Valentine. That was a bummer to witness. Why are some guys like that in public? Or at all? Sad.

Thank goodness we work well together. Our dorky mugs…ahhhh!

I won’t be showing you our landscapes -yet-maybe another day! But I do have a big canvas to show you.  I’ve been working on it the past few days. Here it is in my studio…in the works. At this point I’m just starting to like it.

I’m planning to put it in our living room. I brought it in there this morning to see how it looks in here. So far, I’m liking it. It’s probably the biggest piece I’ve done so far. I won’t say I don’t like working large, it’s just a total change of pace and it’s very different from my norm. So the verdict is still out on painting bigger stuff.

That’s all for now. Pop in next week, I have some great news to share!! I’ve got a great new class in the works! I’m so excited!!

New class! I can’t wait to hear about it.

I LOVE the painting and think it’s going to look fabulous in your living room. Love how you splash such bright colors on a muted background. I tend to be afraid of bold color but your style really works for me. Can’t wait for the new class info.

Mini Monsters, Kitties and Bunnies Overtook my Studio.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of having 3 Girl Scouts back in my studio. It was our last session together. We had a lot of painting to do.  First we had a bit of a show and tell, then they worked on their canvases. When that was finished, we did a collaborative piece. The four of us. There was a lot of energy, sharing, and fun! And of course we took a couple cookie breaks. I mean, Girl Scouts love cookies, right?

Last week we talked a lot about portraits and studied faces. I gave the girls a blank grid and had them fill in the grid with faces. All sorts of faces. I am in love with their grids!! Seriously…looky…

Pretty great, right?! We also talked about seeking inspiration for cool faces. I told them to look…really look…at the faces in cartoons. This Girl Scout drew some Mario characters! Her Mario is at the bottom. So great!

Then we got busy painting. They worked on a collaborative piece for their ArtVenture Auction coming up.

In our last session we started their personal paintings and they finished those up too. They were so proud in this photo. So adorable.

All in all, it was a great session. I was pretty inspired by these 3.  They were such a pleasure to create with. Oh, and they promised to stop by when their cookies go on sale (very soon) so I can place an order. Can’t wait!

Sweet! Cookies, girl scouts, you! Oh and I also like your large canvas in your next post. VERY FUN! Hope to see more of that:) Love working large.

The Artist League Gallery

I’m delighted to tell you that my work was added to a new art gallery last week. You can find several of my pieces at The Artist League, located in Harvester Artspace Building in the historic downtown Council Bluffs.  That’s just across the bridge from Omaha.

Here is what was hung up late Friday, just before their 2nd Fridays art night began. Always great to see your pieces under the lights!

My work will be at The Artist League thru May 8th.

Taylor, the Owner of the Gallery has his art studio next door to the Gallery.  Bark’m is where he creates beautiful graphite portraits.

Stop by The Artist League and take a peek at the art! While you are there, be sure to meander into Fortress. It’s darling little space. Tell Ellene I said hello!

Overheard in the Studio

Yesterday my studio held the future! I had the pleasure of collaborating with the Girl Scouts. I delighted in spending time with 7 and 8 year olds. It’s been a while! Such a great age. They were so polite and kind, really a sweet bunch.

We made the best of our time together, the girls were B U S Y and genuinely enjoyed it. We worked on some portrait beginnings. I had lots to show them and they did lots of experimenting. They are so eager to do and soak it all in. I even gave them homework. I can’t wait to see what they bring back next week!

Here are a few pix of their darling, amazing and awesome watercolored portraits:

This morning I’ve been thinking about some of the things I overheard in the studio. I’m going to smile every time I think about their words…

Can we meet her puppy?

That cat is mean. She hissed at me.

She hissed at me, too!

I’m drawing my friend, Sasha. She has really long hair. To her waist.

I love purple. It’s my very most very favorite.

Boys are stupid.

I’m drawing fangs on my girl!

My best friend taught me how to draw cougars!

I wish I could hold the puppy. I’d hold it like I hold my baby sister.

How cute is that?
